Inclusive education emphasizes on the growing interest in one classroom worth their strengths and weaknesses, and seeks to maximum potential of all students. Every child is unique and must be given equal rights. The child must be accepted, respected and valued. N.K. Bagrodia Public School, Dwarka, in association with Being Inclusive Program( a unit run by Vibhor Neurocare) has developed and designed the classrooms, programmes and activities so that all the students learn and participate together, inclusion describes the process of integrating children with disabilities into regular academics. Therefore, appropriate remedial measures are being taken up since last year to promote inclusive values and practice. 

The school understands and believes that children with special needs can make significant gains through early intervention. As a result, the school has set up a full-fledged integrated unit with the help of a team of Being Inclusive experts in the field lf facilitating inclusion. The unit consists of professionals such as Counselors, special Educators, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists and Neuro/Pediatric Physiotherapists. At N.K.B.P.S., Dwarka, children have been identified who need special education attention and are helped through inclusive education programme.

All Children benefit from inclusive Education. It allows them to:

  • Developed individual strengths which are gift to them, with high and appropriate expectations for each child.
  • Work on individual goals while participating in the classroom with other students of their own age.
  • Developed friendships with a wide variety of other children, each with their own individual needs and abilities.
  • Positive approach affects both the school and community to appreciate diversity and inclusion on a broader level. The school has analyzed various types of     learning disorders (Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia etc.) neurological disorders (ADD/ADHD, Autism, etc.) eugenic issues (Down’s syndrome), borderline mental disabilities, behavioral, emotional issues/disorders, physically challenged and other areas of development delays. The school is focused on giving live a sense of purpose, increased personal strength and confidence.
  • The school is providing support in the form of: Individual Remedial Sessions – Counseling and Behavior Therapy, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Neuro/Pediatric Physiotherapy for the students.
  • Group Remedial Sessions – The program also focuses on providing opportunities to learn about and accept individual differences, lessening the impact of harassment and bullying.
  • Classroom Interventions – Accommodations and Modification required at the level of class teachers for inclusion of the child. Use of multi sensory techniques which include the use of smart classes and project work to enhance experimental learning the students.
  • Relaxation/ Exemptions – Relaxations and Exemptions as guided by the CBSE. Few examples include providing extra time, scribe or a reader as per the requirements of the child.
  • Teacher’s Training – Workshops for teachers to enable them for sensitization and better handling such students.
  • Parental Guidance – Parents and Educators are both partners in the child’s growth and development. It very important that a trust must be established between the facilitator and the parents. Hence, involving parents in various activities conducted be the School, and also conducting right Parenting Workshop from time to time has brought a remarkable difference to the special children. Both the teachers and the peer group have been sensitized to accept all kinds of learning disabilities so that the special children are being accepted in the mainstream.

A government commissioned survey found that more than 53% of the children in India are subjected to sexual abuse, but most don’t report the assaults to anyone. Parents and relatives, persons known to the child or in a position of trust and responsibility were mostly found to be perpetrators of child sexual abuse in the country.

SEN Department decided to focus on ‘Child Sex Education and Abuse Prevention’ as the key theme for the 2016-2017 session. The department conducted workshops with students, teachers and parents. While pre-primary and primary students were educated on ‘good/bad touch’ and no touch policy, several workshops targeting adolescent issues were conducted for middle and senior wing. Dr. Jagmeet, Sangeeta Singh and Nikita Chanda the team of counselor and special educator along with Principal and Headmistress counseled the students from time to time. Some precautions if taken by parents can help in protecting the children.
Be involved in the child’s life.

Being actively involved in a child’s life can make warning signs of child sexual abuse more obvious and help the child feel more comfortable coming to you if something isn’t right.

  • Show interest in their day-to-day lives and get to know the people in your child’s life.
  • Choose caregivers carefully, talk about the media and make them aware.
  • Know the warning signs encourage children to speak up.
  • Teach your child about boundaries and how to talk about bodies (Use real names for body parts).
  • Think beyond “stranger danger.” Be available. Let them know they won’t get in trouble.
  • Give them the chance to raise new topics.
